Glass Supported Loft Stair

This
staircase appears to float in the large open space of a loft in SoHo,
New York City. The stainless steel risers pierce a vertical glass
wall through a very sophisticated, but delicate looking, adjustable
gland that transfers high torque loads into the glass.

The project
exemplifies TriPyramid's collaborative work with architect and structural
engineer. Starting with an open-end design project, with just a
rough sketch, the collaborators refined it from concept to final
design and production, using TriPyramid's knowledge of the limitations
imposed by the manufacturing of the tempered glass panels, and of
the structural reactions between the glass and the open steel risers.
TriPyramid designed and manufactured each component so that all details avoid unnecessary mass while meeting the necessary structural requirements.
